ACCESS TO TECHNOLOGY INCREASE WEALTH IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY
The Urban Hip Tech Foundation (UTHF) is a community-based organization designed to galvanize those underrepresented in the technology industry. We are shifting the trajectory of their future by teaching 21st century skills through tech literacy, critical thinking and entrepreneurship. Our mission is to transform the ecosystem of urban communities into innovative technology hubs that serve as a catalyst to increase Black and Brown representation in the technology industry. We are ‘Closing the Divide” by establishing a blueprint of world-class technical training and providing the necessary resources for Black and Brown people to excel in Tech. We believe that one solution lies in connecting tech and social justice leaders to spearhead revolutionary programs that benefit Youth/At-Risk Youth and the successful reintegration of former inmates into society.
The westside of Los Angeles, Silicon Beach, is home to over 500 tech companies including Google, Yahoo and YouTube. However, urban Los Angeles is a “tech desert” due to the lack of access to technology in the disadvantaged areas. In addition, the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic has led to increased unemployment rates. Urban Hip Tech Foundation is closing the Digital Divide by providing minority youth and adults access.
Studies have proven that an educated workforce contributes to building the economy. Urban Hip Tech Foundation is transitioning ex-felons from tax takers to tax makers by providing tech and entrepreneurship training. Education and transferrable skills afford the community reduction of crime and allows re-entry into the work force.
EVENTS
The objective of our events to is to enlighten the community on the programs we offer. We will share our platform to teach tangible life skills to youth, including aged-out foster home kids and ex-felons. The Plan is to create an equitable economy through Black Tech, stop Recidivism and create a re-entry strategy. There will be Speaker Series, Hack-A-Thons and other Keynote Presentations to introduce Coding.
PARTNERSHIPS
We’re promoting Technology through the lifestyle of Hip Hop which has highly impacted our youth culture. It’s not about race or place as much as it’s an attitude, a state of mind. The power and influence of the hip-hop culture on business is unprecedented. We are forging strategic and purposeful partnerships across all industries, including Music, Sports and Film, that will help scale and sustain UHTF to continue to develop solutions for social problems and serve as a pipeline.
